CBD for Arthritis: Everything You Should Know
Approximately 54 million Americans suffer from arthritis, which is considered to be one of the most prevalent health problems in the country. For years, people with arthritis pain have been dependent on pharmaceuticals that don’t always provide enough relief and can have unwanted side effects. For people suffering from arthritis and looking for relief, CBD (cannabidiol) may be a safe option.
CBD: What is it and how does it work?
CBD is a cannabinoid derived from hemp. There are numerous cannabinoids in hemp, but CBD is the most abundant and well-studied for its therapeutic properties. As a result of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), the body is able to handle cannabinoids, which is why CBD appears to help with a lot of human conditions, including arthritis.
How Effective Is CBD for Arthritis?
Research and anecdotal evidence indicate that CBD could relieve arthritis symptoms. Apparently, CBD regulates the body’s inflammatory response and may affect the central nervous system. It is possible to benefit from both of these types of residential or commercial properties if you have arthritis.
Study Results on CBD for Arthritis
CBD has been studied for joint inflammation very little, but the studies that have been conducted provide a positive overview. The effects of CBD gel on inflammation and discomfort in joints were shown in animal studies conducted in 2016. Furthermore, no adverse reactions were observed in the animals.
Several studies in animals suggest that CBD could help treat arthritis and relieve associated inflammation. Here are some examples:
- A 2017 found that CBD may be a risk-free and valuable treatment choice for joint pain related to osteoarthritis.
- A 2016 found that the topical application of CBD had the potential to alleviate discomfort and inflammation related to joint arthritis.
- A 2014 of the existing body of research on animals wrapped up that CBD might be a reliable treatment for osteoarthritis.
- A 2011 found that CBD helped reduce inflammatory pain in rats by affecting the way that pain receptors respond to stimulations.
To date, however, there is no conclusive scientific evidence that CBD is an effective arthritis treatment for humans.
Which product should I use?
Products based on CBD can be consumed orally, applied topically, or inhaled. The advantages and disadvantages of each are different.
- By mouth. When CBD is ingested, whether in capsules, food or liquid, it is absorbed by the digestive system. Due to delayed onset of impact (1-2 hrs), unidentified effects of stomach acids, and current dishes, absorption is slow.
- On the skin. Over an unpleasant joint, topical products, such as lotions and balms, are applied. It is unknown whether these items contain CBD listed below the skin. In addition to CBD, topical products may also contain menthol, capsaicin, or camphor, making it hard to determine whether a favorable result is due to CBD or another active ingredient.
- Inhaled. Vaping pens, or vaporizers, can be used to inhale CBD. The risks associated with inhaling vaporized oils and chemical byproducts are not yet fully understood, particularly for individuals with inflammatory arthritis. Due to the fact that the CDC is investigating vaping’s association with hospitalizations and fatalities from serious pulmonary illnesses, it is not recommended to vape.
Is CBD worth trying?
CBD has not been studied adequately in relation to arthritis, so doctors are unable to determine who might benefit from CBD, at what dose, how, and who should avoid it. Several factors, however, remain in agreement:
- Inflammatory arthritis cannot be treated with CBD alone.
- Before trying CBD, patients with arthritis should speak with their health care provider who treats their arthritis. They can discuss what has worked or not worked in the past, if there are other options to consider, how to do a trial run, what to look out for, and when to return for a follow-up visit. Track your symptoms and doses with a diary.
- It can be expensive to purchase quality CBD products, especially if you plan to use them for a long time. Ensure that the product is truly helping symptoms in order to avoid wasting money.
Is CBD Legal?
The 2018 Farm Expense Act made CBD derived from hemp legal if it has less than 0.3 percent THC. Unlike other companies, Nirvana sells only broad-spectrum products that are completely legal and do not contain THC at all.
